“Find It…in Medina County”~ A GeoTrail Launch Event

Saturday, June 11, 9am to 1pm

What is geocaching?  Geocaching is a ‘scavenger hunt’ type of outdoor recreational activity that is of interest to those of all ages, and is fun for children and families.  Participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or their mobile device to seek containers (geocaches) hidden anywhere in the world.  There are currently more than 2.86 million active geocaches in the world and 352 hidden in Medina County.

“Find it…  in Medina County” is a geotrail consisting of 25 geocaches hidden throughout the area.  Visit various locations in Medina County and find out what makes the area so unique and special.

The locations of these hidden containers will be published on the geocaching website (www.geocaching.com).  Participants must visit each site, find the container and sign the logbook that is inside.

Join us at Wolf Creek Environmental Center, 6100 Ridge Road in Sharon Township on Saturday. June 11th from 9am to 1pm to launch this on-going GeoTrail in Medina County.  This event marks the first day of our new trail, with “passports” and coordinates for the 25 geocaches being distributed to those in attendance.

Those who locate at least 18 of the geocaches in the series and present their completed passport at one of our redemption sites will receive a specially designed trackable geocoin as a memento of the fun that they have had exploring the area.  (Limited to the first 250–  one per geocaching name).  A bonus surprise will be given to those who find at least 22 of the geocaches in this special series.

This event is presented by the Medina County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Medina County Park District.

If you cannot attend our launch event, don’t worry!  Geocaches will remain in place for an extended period of time, giving you and your family plenty of time to explore Medina County throughout the year as your schedule permits.
