’s Holiday Gift Giving Ideas 1 thru 3

Every year we are asked for unique ideas for the gift giving season.   Here are our first three suggestions:

Idea #1
I can not think of a better gift to give anyone than a weekend away from the hustle and bustle.  With so many of us not able to break away for long vacations a local getaway is always a treat.  One of those getaway places is the Red Maple Inn located in Burton Ohio.  This local Bed and Breakfast sits in the heart of Geauga County where there is plenty of things to do like shopping, eating and enjoying nature at the local Ohio State park.  And remember Geauga County is the fourth largest Amish Community in the world.

Bed and Breakfast you say?  Not sure that is your cup of tea?  Let me tell you, what I like about the Red Maple Inn is that it really is not your typical Bed and Breakfast, but more like a small hotel. There are 17 lovely appointed rooms and one suite and no two rooms are alike.  Other amenities include small fitness center, fireplaces, Jacuzzi tub, game room and more. And of course since it is a Bed and Breakfast you are spoiled with a wonderful continental breakfast every morning.  The Red Maple Inn can handle weddings, banquets or conferences.

So why not give a gift certificate to your parents or loved one so they can enjoy a stressful free getaway in a beautiful area. To book a reservation or order a gift certificate 888.646.2753 or

Idea #2

This year I volunteered to decorate a fairy tale room at the Hower House Victorian Mansion located in Akron, Ohio. The fairy tale I had chosen was Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  I had such a wonderful time decorating and I had wonderful helpers and businesses like Ma & Pas in Burton, that helped make our room come alive.

But while there I had the chance to visit the Cellar Door Store in the basement.  What an absolute treat!   I felt I was walking into a Tea Room gift shop.  The tea cups and heirloom holiday ornaments.  Beautiful stationary and pictures.   Every corner had another surprise.  The Cellar Door is open during the homes tour times and special events.  For more information contact the Hower House at 330.972.6909 or

And this holiday season make sure you take the holiday tour of all the Fairy Tale rooms.  Would love to hear what you think of our Goldilocks and The Three Bears room located on the second floor and look out for “The Wolf” in Red Riding Hoods room.  The Fairy Tale Holiday Tour times are Nov 10 – Dec. 23: Wednesday – Saturday, noon until 3:30 pm with self-guided tours Sunday’s 1 to 4pm.

Idea #3

Flowers by Cynde

I met Charlotte, the owner and master floral designer about ten years ago.  I happen to be looking for a local florist who would be willing to work with my country flair. Well I immediately fell in love with her Cinderella story.   Charlotte worked for the original owner “Cynde” as the “floor sweeper” and “apprentice floral designer”.  It didn’t take long for Cynde to realize just how talented Charlotte was with flowers, so when Cynde decided to retire from the business Charlotte was offered her dream…the opportunity to buy the flower shop and become the owner.  A fairy tale in the making.

But like all floral shops, times became hard and Cynde had to look for ways to streamline her overhead.  So she made a very bold step and moved her business to her home, since most all orders she received came via the phone or internet.  Her designs, her special attention to detail and her extreme willingness to please her wedding clients, business clients and general customers has always set her apart from other florists.  Charlotte does not handle all this business alone,  another master floral designer Cheryl is on hand to help in all the designs and between the two they have over 50 years experience in the business.

So if you are looking for a local florist who will take care of you, design a beautiful holiday centerpiece or create a gorgeous arrangement for the holidays, why not call Flower by Cynde at 330.467.1997 or
